St. James' Youth Group
The St. James Youth Group is a group of Junior High and High School
students. When asked, the members felt that the youth group was important
to them because it helped them to keep religion in their lives. The
group enjoys:

Having fun together in a Christian environment

Making friends and getting to know other youth
-
Sharing the important things in our lives together
-
Playing games and sports, having sleepovers
-
Reading the bible, singing hymns, and praying together
-
Performing service projects for the larger community
St. James Youth Group accomplishments include:

Sponsoring the church’s holiday faire (1999)
-
Super Bowl Subs fundraiser (1997-present)
-
Cleaned and refurbished the Church Nursery (fall 1999)

Designed and created banners illustrating Psalm 121 to decorate the church
(1999)

Organized a church-wide cleanup of the church school rooms, then served
a lasagna dinner to the workers (spring 1999)

Helped with Shrove Tuesday pancake supper (1998-present)
-
Served at St. Andrews roast beef supper (spring 1999)
-
Purchased new cinctures for acolytes (winter 2000)
-
Organized church-wide caroling party to parish shut-ins (1998-present –
followed by Yankee Swap Christmas Party in 1999)

Wrote and preached sermon on Youth Sundays (fall 1999 & spring 2000)
-
Weeded flower beds and sidewalks around church (spring 1998)

Designed and created Stations of the Cross for the sanctuary (spring 2000)

Helped with Adopt-a-Family at Christmas (1998-present)
-
Collected toiletries for NELCWIT (battered women’s shelter) (1997-1998)

Invited guest speakers from Habitat for Humanity and Toastmasters
Our goals for the future include:

Continuing with our successful service projects and fundraisers

Attending NIGHTWATCH at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York
City

Hiking in the area
-
Going camping
-
Attending a Red Sox game
-
Developing a Fall “orientation” for new members
