St. James' Church School
|
St
James offers weekly educational opportunities for
children ages Birth to Grade 8 At St James, we understand
that
each child is an individual. As a result our teaching staff has
worked
to develop a curriculum that is as diverse as it’s students. Our
liturgically
based curriculum appeals to the many ways students learn. A visit
to
one of our classrooms might find the students illustrating the story of
the
Prodigal Son, creating clay sculptures to demonstrate the story of the
parting
of the Red Sea or learning some basic sign language while listening to
the
story of the woman and the lost coin. By varying the methods we
use
to educate our students we appeal to their different learning styles to
increase
their retention of the story and its message relating to the greater
world.
We continue the education of our students outside the classroom as well. They are active in all aspects of the service including reading, ushering, acolyting, giving the sermon, volunteering with the Altar Guild and many other roles. Sunday school will run through June 4th, 2006. The children enter church just prior to the Eucharist and remain with their families until the end of the service. For more information
please
drop in on any of our classes or speak to Kristen Wickline.

Church School is about more than just being in the classroom! Here are a few of our extra-curricular activities Christmas Pageant The children participate in a pageant that tells the story of Christ’s birth. They are the actors, choir and orchestra accompaniment for the annual event that takes place at the 4pm Christmas Eve service. Thanksgiving bread baking The children bake a variety of breads the Sunday before Thanksgiving to donate to the local shelters. The breads are added to the Thanksgiving meals that are handed out to needy families. Sledding and pizza party Always a fun time! Watch for Fr Frank careening down the hill on his sled and enjoy pizza and fellowship Lenten pretzel making The children learn the reason why we use unleavened bread during the Lenten season then enjoy the fruits of their labors. Re-enactment of the Last Supper Each Palm Sunday the children participate in a re-enactment of the Last Supper complete with foods that are believed to have been consumed at that famous meal. Family Fun Day A parish-wide event. A potluck supper complete with fun family activities and games. This party is usually held around Halloween. Children on Sunday The children are involved in all aspects of the service from volunteering with the Altar Guild, to acolyting, to presenting the Gifts among many others. |
